DESCRIPTION:March 1st – Clean Up Australia Day.  9:30 – 11:30 am.  We will be participating again\, and once again\, meeting on the corner of Albert Rd and Harper Ave\, over the road from the Senior Citizens hall\, near the bowls club.  From there we will clean up rubbish up and down stream\, and along the rail trail\, and anywhere else we think is important.  Take note of key areas that need a clean up!  No need to rsvp\, but we’d love a good turn out.  \nClean Up Australia inspires and empowers communities to clean up\, fix up and conserve our environment. \n\nWhat was started in 1989 by an “average Australian bloke” who had a simple idea to make a difference in his own backyard has now become the nation’s largest community-based environmental event. \n\nIt is hard to believe that this initiative began as the inspiration of one man\, Ian Kiernan. An avid sailor\, Ian was shocked and disgusted by the pollution and rubbish that he continually encountered in the oceans of the world. Taking matters into his own hands\, Ian organised a community event with the support of a committee of friends\, including co-founder Kim McKay AO. \nThis simple idea ignited an enthusiasm and desire among the local community to get involved and make a difference. And surely if a capital city could be mobilised into action\, then so could the whole nation! And so it was that Clean Up Australia Day was born in 1990 \n\n\n
